Dragon Ball Super: Jiren is the Buddha

Jiren is one of the most recent antagonists as shown in the anime. He impressed almost everyone with his strength and he is even capable of stopping Goku. He blocked Goku's Kamehameha with ease and didn't even use his full strength during his fight with Goku. Toppo (or Top) observed that Goku in Super Saiyan Blue was not enough to surpass Jiren.
How can this be? Well, fans suggest that Jiren is actually inspired from the Buddha. This theory goes deep into how Akira Toriyama even thought of making Dragon Ball.

Fans point out that Jiren's powers lie in his eyes. In Buddhism, the third eye is the ultimate form of enlightenment. One's eyes are powerful enough to create entire worlds. This theory states that Jiren might as well be inspired from Buddha.

In the early days when Akira Toriyama started writing Dragon Ball, he created the protagonist Goku, inspired from Sun Wukong. Wukong is a character from the ancient literature Journey to the West and he has admitted that Goku is indeed inspired from Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong, or the Monkey King, has the ability to turn into a giant gorilla like monster. Sound familiar? Well, Goku too has the ability to turn into the Great Ape in the original series, however his tail is cut off later, making him lose this ability. Another striking similarity is that Wukong possesses a magical staff called Ruyi Bang which can change its size on Wukong's will. This is similar to Goku's Power Pole, a staff of similar abilities.

In Journey to the West, Buddha imprisoned Wukong with his palm and forced him to live on earth for his crimes. This explains why Goku couldn't defeat Jiren in one go.

Meditations, third eye, and name origins all point to Jiren likely being inspired by the Buddha.
