Itachi Uchiha is a beloved character who fans just can't get enough of. He's been through a lot of hard times and sacrificed his own self for the sake of his little brother, Sasuke. Itachi is also shown to possess the MangekyΕ Sharingan, which allows the user to extend the reaches of their visual prowess, and gives them new powers. But did you know that some of these powers are based on japanese mythology?
1. Tsukuyomi
This was the first special ability that was introduced to us when Itachi came back to Konha after the death of Hiruzen Sarutobi, the third Hokage. Itachi uses this attack against Kakashi, who is trapped under a genjutsu world, where time runs differently. Itachi tortures him, hoping to break his soul down, but Kakashi being strong, doesn't give up.
This is quite an awesome skill, but it is based on the japanese god of the same name. Tsukuyomi is shown to be the god of moon, which corresponds to the full moon shown in Itachi's tsukuyomi dimension. Tsukuyomi holds powers related to night and darkness, and is able to blend into shadows and use them to teleport. Tsukuyomi is also know to be able to create weapons out of shadows.
2. Amaterasu
This ability of Itachi's is the highest form of Fire Release. Itachi creates black flames which cannot be extinguished. They only go off when their target has been fully burnt down.
This ability is influenced by the japanese godess of sun, Amaterasu. Amaterasu is known to be able to conjure immense amounts of light and heat, which corresponds to the powerful black flames.
3. Susanoo
This ability is based on the japanese god Susanoo, who is the god of storms. Susanoo is said to be an expert swordsman, and is known to use powerful weapons such as the Kusanagi sword. He also has the power of generating cyclonic winds, lightning, storm and frost.
...
That was a summary of Itachi's powers and their relation with japanese mythology. Well, to top it all off, the three gods mentioned here are actually siblings!
